Course Information

Process capability is a powerful tool that compares how a process is actually performing against its customer requirements. It has the ability to predict in the long term how many good parts a process will yield by calculating numerical values Cp and Cpk. For example, a process capability study is completed, yielding a Cp of 1 and a Cpk of 1.These values explain that over 66,807 parts will be out of specification for every million parts made, or yield 93.3% good parts. On improving the process to a Cp of 1.67 and a Cpk of 1.67, then the reject rate reduces significantly to 233 defects for every million which results in a process yield of 99.977%.  Process capability is a predictive tool that enables the right decision to be made based on facts.

PROGRAM AIM

 The aim of this program is to provide the knowledge and skills to conduct a capability study for variable data. It enables the learner to quantify numerically the performance of a process, interpret the results and present analysis cohesively. Unique to this training program is the supply of a step by step procedure and data collection form that ensures you can apply learning on immediate return to the workplace. Process capability for attribute data is also introduced in program, with main focus of day on variable data.

This course is aimed at personnel who are responsible for improving processes in a cost effective manner. Typically this includes, but is not limited to:

• Six Sigma Greenbelt/Blackbelt candidates

PRE REQUISITES           This course assumes no/little prior experience of Process Capability. A basic understanding of mean and standard deviation would be of benefit to participants

Session 5 Conduct a capability study and assess process capability
Session 6 Complete a capability study for attribute data

Session 7 Assessment of learning

 
ASSESSMENT

On completion of training, trainees will complete a short multiple choice exam.

SOFTWARE

Minitab and SPC for Excel are two software packages available that complete the computation of a process capability analysis. This course offers training using Minitab version 15, with no prior experience required. In the event that you have a preference for SPC for Excel, please specify in your application form, and your needs will be addressed during training. Both laptops and licensed software are supplied by Crystal Business Solutions on the training day. Candidates who prefer to supply personal laptops with licensed software are welcome to do so. ABOUT THE TRAINER

The trainer for this course is Maria Ryan, who is a certified Six Sigma Blackbelt and Level 6 FETAC certified trainer. Maria has 15 years industrial experience within the Aerospace, Chemical, Medical Device and Pharmaceutical environments. Within these industries, she has worked in varying roles including Design and Manufacturing Engineer, Six Sigma Blackbelt, Continuous Improvement Manager, Quality Manager and Process Excellence Leader. On completion of training, trainees are motivated to apply learning on return to the workplace. This is achieved through practical application of tools coupled with Maria’s high energy and passion for superior performance.
